Sentence কি? (what Is The Sentence?)
Group – 1
- Goes to School
- In a Hut.
Group – 2
- He goes to school.
- He lives in a hut.
লক্ষ্য করলে দেখতে পারবেন, Group – 1 এর বাক্য গুলি মনের ভাব প্রকাশ করতে পারছে না। কিন্তু Group – 2 এর বাক্য গুলি দ্বারা মনের ভান প্রকাশ করা যাচ্ছে। অতএব,
যে সুবিন্যস্ত পদ সমষ্টি দ্বারা কোন বিষয়ে ব্যক্তির মনের ভাব সম্পূর্ণভাবে প্রকাশ পায়, তাকে Sentence বলে। ( A Sentence is a group of words making a complete sense).
যেমনঃ –
- The Bird is flying. ( পাখিটি উড়িতেছে)
- He is eating rice. (সে ভাত খাইতেছে)
The Subject & The Predicate
প্রত্যেকটা বাক্যে দুইটা অংশ থাকে। যথাঃ-
১ । Subject এবং
২ । Predicate.
১. Subject: বাক্যের যে অংশে কোন ব্যক্তি বা বস্তু সম্পর্কে উল্লেখ করা হয় অর্থাৎ যার সম্পর্কে কোন কিছু বলে হয়, তাকে Subject বলে। ( The subject is that part of a sentence which denotes the person or thing about whom or which something is said.)
২. Predicate: Subject সম্পর্কে যাহা বলা হয়, তাকে Predicate বলে। ( The Predicate is a word or a group of words that denotes what is said about the subject.) উদ্দ্যেশ্য ও বিধেয় ব্যতীত কোন বাক্যই গঠিত হতে পারে না।

নিচের Sentence গুলির প্রত্যেকটিকে Subject এবং Predicate অংশে বিভক্ত করঃ-
The dog is barking. Smoking is a bad habit. The child is the father of the man. Go home at once. I played football. To err is human. Karim lives in a hut. Do not lend him this pen. The poor man begs from door to door. The girl is beautiful. Karim is good at drawing. I was ill yesterday. He does not like me. Help me in my danger. Read the newspaper. Mina is my daughter. Zahid was his friend. They requested us to help them. Morning shows the day.
